On April 19, 2017 it became into force the Decree of December 9, 2016, published in the Official Gazette No. 15 of January 19, 2017), providing rules on
“indication of origin on the label of the raw material for milk and milk products, implementing EU Regulation n.1169/2011 concerning the pro-vision of food information to consumers”.
Article 2 of the Decree provides that:
“The indication of origin of the milk or milk used as an ingredient in dairy products listed in Annex 1, provides for the use on the label of the following:
- “Country of milking”, country name in which the milk was milked;
- “Country of preparation or processing”: the name of the country in which the milk was affected or transformed. In case milk or milk used as an ingredient in dairy products listed in Annex 1 has been milked, conditioned or processed in the same country, the indication of origin may be done with the use of the following words: “origin of the milk”: Country name”.
Article 3 provides that:
“Where the operations referred to Article 2, paragraph 1, are carried out in the territory of several countries members of the European Union…can be used the following wordings: “milk of EU coun-tries” for the operation of milking, conditioned or transformed milk in EU Countries for operations of packaging or processing. Should the operations referred to in Article 2, paragraph 1 take place in the territory of several countries situated outside of the European Union …the following indications can be used: non-EU countries for the operation of milking, conditioned or transformed milk in non-EU Countries for the operation of conditioning or processing”.
The indications concerning the origin referred to in Articles 2 and 3 must be indelible and placed on the label so that they are visible and easily legible.
